Effect of Silica Fume on Engineering Performance and Life Cycle Impact of Jute-Fibre-Reinforced Concrete

The brittleness of plain concrete (PC) is a result its lack tensile strength and poor resistance to cracking, which in turn limits potential uses. addition dispersed fibres into the binding material has been demonstrated have positive impact on properties PC. Nevertheless, using new or engineered significantly increases overall cost carbon footprint concrete. Consequently, main obstacle creating environmentally friendly fibre-reinforced traditional design process with energy-intensive materials. This study investigated how engineering life cycle were influenced by varying volume fractions jute fibre (JF). incorporating silica fume (SF) as partial replacement Portland cement was also studied. studied parameters included mechanical behaviour, non-destructive durability indicators, JF SF. efficiency performance improved increase age When both SF 0.3% JF, there an improvement around 28% compressive (CS). added, presence absence SF, splitting (STS) 20% 40%, respectively. residual flexural (FS) ductility overcame drawbacks JF-reinforced (JFRC) against water absorption (WA) rapid chloride ion penetration (RCIP).
